Job Summary

This role is ideal for a backend engineer with a deep specialization in protocol parsing and/or network topology—someone with strong development experience and a passion for understanding and optimizing complex network environments. You’ll play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining high-performance backend services that drive our network security and analytics solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement high-performance backend systems focused on protocol parsing and topology analysis.
  • Develop and optimize custom network protocol parsers for deep packet inspection and security analytics.
  • Build and maintain network-related backend services, APIs, and data processing pipelines.
  • Model and analyze network topologies, mapping relationships between nodes, endpoints, and data flows.
  • Optimize network parsing operations for speed and efficiency.
  • Work with C++, Go, Rust, or Python to develop scalable and efficient solutions.
  • Ensure high-throughput, low-latency performance for real-time network traffic analysis.
  • Utilize tools like Wireshark, tcpdump, and traceroute to troubleshoot and optimize network-related services.
  • Collaborate with security analysts and engineering teams to enhance network monitoring and detection capabilities.

Key Qualifications

Deep Knowledge of Network Protocols:

  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, BGP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, and other networking standards.
  • Expertise in parsing and interpreting low-level protocol data structures and payloads.
  • Experience with custom or proprietary protocol design and decoding.

Software Development Expertise:

  • Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Python, Go, Rust, or C/C++.
  • Experience building and maintaining network-intensive backend systems, services, and APIs.
  • Familiarity with asynchronous processing and concurrent programming patterns.

Topology Analysis and Modeling:

  • Understanding of network topology concepts, including network segmentation, routing, and peering.
  • Skills in modeling complex network environments and mapping relationships between network entities.
  • Ability to design and implement systems that maintain and visualize network topology data.

Performance and Scalability Focus:

  • Experience optimizing network parsing operations for high efficiency.
  • Familiarity with scaling backend systems to handle high-throughput, low-latency networking scenarios.
  • Knowledge of load balancing, caching strategies, and distributed systems design as it relates to network data.

Security and Compliance Awareness:

  • Understanding of secure protocol design, encryption standards, and handling of sensitive data.
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g., PCI-DSS, GDPR, NIST guidelines).

Problem-Solving and Debugging Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills to diagnose and troubleshoot complex network and protocol-related issues.
  • Ability to trace packet flows, identify bottlenecks, and resolve discrepancies in protocol implementations.
  • Proficiency with network monitoring and diagnostic tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, and traceroute.

Database Engineer - Remote

Do you take pride in building database systems that are fast, reliable, and rock-solid under pressure? We’re looking for an experienced database engineer who knows how to design and optimize architectures that handle demanding workloads with ease. Whether in the cloud or on-premise, you’ll be responsible for crafting systems that deliver high performance, scalability, and reliability for mission-critical applications. This role offers the opportunity to own database infrastructure end-to-end, from designing efficient data models to optimizing performance on specialized ultra-high-performance hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement high-performance relational database systems for cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Design and optimize systems to handle large-scale, concurrent workloads with low latency and high availability.
  • Develop and maintain strategies for database replication, partitioning, and scaling to ensure fault tolerance and seamless growth.
  • Tune database configurations, queries, and indexes for peak performance under heavy workloads.
  • Build and automate robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design schemas and data models that balance performance, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot database performance and reliability issues, providing proactive solutions before they impact operations.
  • Stay current with advancements in database technologies, bringing new ideas and best practices to the team.

Requirements

  • Actively hold, or be open to attaining, a Top-Secret security clearance.
  • 7+ years of experience designing and managing relational database systems in production environments.
  • Proven expertise in optimizing database performance and managing systems under high-concurrency workloads.
  • Strong understanding of database internals, execution plans, and advanced query optimization techniques.
  • Experience designing and maintaining highly available systems, including replication and failover mechanisms.
  • Proficiency with scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, Bash, Terraform, Ansible) for database management and deployment.
  • Hands-on experience with both cloud-native database solutions and on-premise hardware optimized for performance.
  • Familiarity with distributed database systems and scaling strategies for large datasets.
  • A systematic approach to monitoring, incident response, and maintaining production-grade reliability.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and mentor less experienced team members.

Bonus Points

• Expertise in advanced database security practices, including encryption, access control, and auditing.

• Experience implementing hybrid cloud/on-prem database solutions or other complex architectures.

• Contributions to open-source database tools or frameworks.

• Solid understanding of storage systems and how hardware impacts database performance.
